About

To support our member companies and the cable industry in their efforts to attract and retain an effective workforce, CTHRA commissions respected independent research firms to conduct surveys to identify industry-specific trends and benchmarks. Currently, CTHRA’s research initiatives include:

Annual Cable and Satellite MSOs
Compensation Survey

The Cable and Satellite MSO Survey is a highly industry specific survey conducted annually to provide multiple systems operators (MSOs) with up-to-date, market competitive compensation data. In 2011, 14 MSOs representing 130,000 employees, used Croner survey data to establish rational market compensation levels in their organizations.

In 2011, the participants in the MSO Survey included the large MSOs (nine of the top twelve participating) as well as smaller, regional companies and satellite operators.

2012 CTHRA Employee Benefits Survey
Wouldn't it be nice to have relevant benchmarking benefit data available to include in your 2012-2013 benefit planning process? Current data about benefit levels, costs and contributions typically are not released until August or later and are general in nature, not industry specific. The challenging issue for CTHRA members is that with benefit costs consuming an ever expanding share of corporate budgets, we are all being asked probing questions about how we compare to the competition. Now CTHRA has a solution!

A Practical Solution

In 2011, CTHRA first teamed with Willis, one of the world's largest insurance brokerage firms, to create an industry-specific solution:  CTHRA’s Employee Benefits Survey.  Winning features include:

The scope of the survey is directly aligned with the information essential to strategic decision making.

The entire survey can generally be completed in less than two hours.
Survey results are industry-specific and separated into participant categoried (MSOs and content providers).
Survey questions are worded in a clear, concise manner.
The results/benchmarks will be released in April, 2012.

Data will also be collected for life insurance, disability insurance, dental insurance, and retirement plans

Real World Applications

Survey participants can utilize the data to:

Quantify your company’s total medical benefit spend relative to its peer group.

Measure the richness of the programs offered based on the plan design, not solely on cost.

Balance the total benefit offering in relationship to your company’s overall compensation and benefits philosophy.

The cost to participate in the CTHRA Benefits Survey is $2,000. Data collection began January 9, 2012, registration closes on January 23, 2012, data collection closes on February 17, 2012, and results will be released April 30.

2012 Human Capital Metrics Survey

CTHRA is pleased to announce it has selected Pearl Meyer & Partners as the new manager of the CTHRA Human Capital Metrics Survey

The CTHRA Human Capital Metrics survey collects and assesses key benchmarking metrics allowing organizations to assess and enhance their human resource programs and efforts. The survey provides the most comprehensive human capital metrics and benchmark information for cable and telecommunications organizations in the United States.  The survey includes the following topics:

Productivity data (revenue per FTE)

Turnover (in total, and by EEO-1 Group)

Cost per hire

Human resource department staffing and annual expenses

Annual salary increase data

New in 2012, CTHRA is collecting headcount information for key functional areas (customer service, sales and marketing, field service, and information technology) to allow you to benchmark the productivity of these critical roles within your organization.  In addition to collecting current employment and turnover statistics, questions on number of hires and promotions (in total, by EEO-1 Group, and for the key functional areas) have been added.  Finally, additional information will be collected regarding the human resource department to assess staffing and productivity by discipline (compensation, benefits, generalist, etc.).

The cost to participate in CTHRA’s Human Capital Metrics Survey is $3,000.  Data collection begins immediately and closes on March 9, 2012.  Survey results will be released May 15.
