CTHRA's Outlook for 2008
 |
Lynne Ramsey
CTHRA President
|
A year ago, CTHRA's board of directors initiated a three year strategic planning process, during which we developed a comprehensive roadmap to ensure we were meeting members' needs. First, we defined CTHRA's vision in a succinct statement: to serve as the industry's premier human capital resource. Next, CTHRA's leadership carefully crafted a comprehensive plan, both strategic and tactical, to make CTHRA's vision a reality. We accomplished much on our "to do" list in 2007 including:
- Conducted three major research initiatives - compensation, employee benefits and human capital metrics
- Expanded the CTHRA community from 1,050 to nearly 1,500 members, providing you with an indispensable knowledge network
- Dramatically expanded our members-only resources to include such meaningful topics as how to attract millenials while retaining boomers, benchmarking and ethics
The CTHRA Board is committed to solid execution of our plan throughout 2008 and thereafter. As a result, it's quite an exciting time to step into the role of CTHRA's president. Rest assured, CTHRA has much in store for you in 2008, and I urge you to be actively involved and make the most of your membership!

Developing Future Leaders: A Conversation with Cox Arizona
 |
| Leadership Development Center Team (Left to Right):Jill Juran, Nancy Murphy, Tracy Slunder, Kelly Helpler, Kris Carter, Laura Bruzan and (not present) Dan Rowley |
Faced with a competitive and tightening labor market, Cox Arizona looked inward to expand its talent pool. The system launched its Leadership Development Center (LDC) in 2005 to accelerate development of potential leaders and prepare them for future positions. To date, 126 candidates have participated in the week-long training, and the LDC expects to assess 48 individuals each year. To learn more about this impressive program, we questioned Nancy Murphy, director, training and organizational development; Dan Rowley, manager, training and organizational development; and Laura Bruzan, leadership consultant, all with Cox Arizona.
Why does Cox emphasize training internal candidates?
Cox Arizona emphasizes growing talent within the organization to achieve increased productivity, employee satisfaction and employee retention. In addition to the LDC, Cox Arizona fosters the training of internal candidates with the Employee Bill of Rights and our efforts to be identified as an employer of choice. Cox Arizona understands that as employees have a greater strategic awareness of business initiatives, their increased knowledge helps achieve bottom-line business goals.
What are the goals of Cox Arizona's Leadership Development Center (LDC)?
- To grow and develop our work force to meet the demanding needs of the business
- To measure and assess the readiness of current and future leaders to advance within Cox Arizona
- To establish a consistent foundation for leadership qualities and behaviors that foster talent development of high-potential employees
