According to a recent PwC Management Barometer survey, 62% of top executives said their companies should require employees who exhibit unhealthy behavior (such as smoking or obesity) to pay a greater share of their health benefits costs.  This is up from 48% in their 2005 PwC's survey.

Brian Koenig and Cox Orange County-Palos Verdes First to Receive CTHRA Honors

This spring, CTHRA announced the debut of CTHRA’s Excellence in HR Awards program. The purpose of the program is two-fold: to spotlight HR achievements within the industry and to elevate the industry’s awareness of the strategic importance of human resources and its impact on business results. CTHRA was honored to receive several highly qualified nominees, and we’re pleased to join with the award sponsor, Multichannel News, to announce the first award recipients!

Cox Orange County and Palos Verdes (OCPV) earned CTHRA’s HR Best Practices Award for its Essential Pieces strategy. CTHRA's Symposium a Can't Miss Event — New Format, Inaugural Awards Ceremony, and Renowned Keynotes

CTHRA continues its distinguished Achieving HR Excellence Symposium series with an event on October 23, 2007 at the W at Perimeter Center hotel in Atlanta. The one-day program will focus on maximizing workforce trends with sessions on human capital metrics, legal issues, workplace flexibility, compensation and benefits, talent acquisition and generational issues.

This symposium will boast a new format. In addition to traditional general sessions led by industry leaders and HR experts, the Atlanta Symposium will include a CEO plenary session featuring Patrick J. CTHRA Releases 2007 Survey Results

Earlier this month, CTHRA released the results of its 2007 Employee Benefits Survey created to provide industry employers with critical benchmarks. Sixteen industry employers participated in the survey: Advance/Newhouse Communications, A&E Television Network, Cablevision, Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox Communications, C-Span, Discovery, ESPN, Hubbard Broadcasting, Scientific Atlanta, Scripps Networks, Time Warner Cable, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., The Weather Channel and YES Network.

The report identified a noteworthy trend: a growing number of employers are expanding benefits beyond traditional healthcare and retirement savings programs as a way to attract and retain quality talent.

Of the respondents, 56 percent offer an on-site gym, cafeteria, or daycare. Respondents also noted additional “convenience” benefits including on-site credit union or ATM, wellness center, laundry pickup/drop off, car repair pickup/drop off, and DVD rentals. CTHRA Panel Discussion for Technology & Engineering Job Seekers Special Job Fair Rates for CTHRA Members

On September 12, the Broadband & Wireless Online Job Fair will take place. The event is produced by CED and Wireless Week magazines and will feature a CTHRA panel discussion. Last year, 2,600 attendees participated in the Broadband & Wireless Online Job Fair. Twenty seven percent of the registrants were senior level management/VPs/directors and 25 percent were managers and supervisors. If this sounds like an audience you’d like to reach, CED magazine is extending a 20 percent discount to CTHRA members. CTHRA’s panel discussion, to be Webcast during the job fair, will be moderated by Lisa Kaye, CTHRA board member and president of greenlightjobs. Panelists include Dale Sylvia, VP of human resources for subscriber networks sector, Scientific Atlanta; Ray Milius, SVP of programming operations, STARZ Entertainment; and Jennifer Forst, technical recruiter, Cox Communications.

They panel will kick off the Webinar with an overview of the industry’s technology job market: the hottest job skills, compensation trends, and new flexibility in career options. They’ll also share insider tips on what matters most on a resume, what not to do in an interview, and tools seekers can use to put their job search on the fast track. Finally, they’ll provide insight on how to ensure one’s career is always on the up and up. It’s a can’t-miss event for job seekers!

L.A. Roundtable Will Address Demographic Shift of U.S. Workforce

Based on the success of prior roundtable discussions, CTHRA is pleased to host a forum in Los Angeles for HR practitioners to discuss how employers can proactively respond to the demographic shift of America’s workforce.  CTHRA’s L.A. Roundtable will be held on October 10 from 8:30 until 11:00 a.m. at the Los Angeles Times building.

The discussion will be facilitated by Linda Akutagawa, vice president of resource and business development for Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics (LEAP), the nation’s foremost provider of leadership development for Asian Pacifics.

"CTHRA’s roundtable in Los Angeles will focus on attracting, retaining and developing talent from growing demographic groups. We’ll discuss best practices employers can implement to help employees succeed while retaining their cultural values," said Lyn Cason who is co-chair of the roundtable event, a CTHRA board member and partner at Warren & Morris, Ltd. Gwen Murakami, vice president of human resources for the Los Angeles Times, joins Cason as co-chair of the roundtable discussion.
