Happy New Year, Colleagues!

What does 2008 have in store for you? It's likely there will be plenty of new opportunities and maybe a challenge or two. You may face a new contender in the war for talent or discover that a tried-and-true practice is no longer effective in the ever-changing environment in which we work. You'll probably be asked to explore an emerging trend or develop a plan of action. In all of these cases, you can rest assured that you have a trusted resource to get the job done: CTHRA.

This past year, CTHRA truly raised the bar in our member offerings so you'll have more resources to rely upon in 2008. We conducted three major research initiatives (compensation, employee benefits and human capital metrics) which provided industry-specific benchmarks you won't find anywhere else.  We expanded the CTHRA community from 1,050 to nearly 1,500 members, providing you with an indispensable knowledge network. We dramatically expanded our members-only resources to include such meaningful topics as how to attract millenials while retaining boomers, benchmarking and ethics.

In October, CTHRA celebrated the achievements of a deserving individual and company with our inaugural HR Excellence Awards and we unveiled our new symposium format featuring knowledge-boosting breakout sessions, a CEO keynote and top-notch speakers sharing insight on the most critical issues facing HR practitioners and our companies.

Finally, after several years of valuable service to the CTHRA board, three individuals will end their terms on December 31, 2007: Timothy Goodly Ph.D., senior vice president of HR for Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., Brian C. Koenig, senior vice president of HR for Scientific Atlanta, and John "Jack" Jackson, vice president of administration and HR for C-SPAN. Jack and Brian both held the role of CTHRA president during their tenure.  CTHRA would not be the relevant, thriving organization it is today without their immense contributions. On behalf of CTHRA, I applaud their efforts and sincerely thank them for their years of service.

As we begin the new year, I officially end my term of office as CTHRA's president. It's truly been an honor for me to lead this great organization. I'd like to offer my personal thank you to each and every one of you for your support, commitment and continued involvement in our association.  And while it's worthwhile and rewarding to look upon all that CTHRA accomplished in 2007, I know that great things lie ahead for CTHRA as Lynne Ramsey takes the helm (click here to review CTHRA's 2008 Officers & Board of Directors).

I wish every member all the best that 2008 has to offer!
